Governor OF Sindh
The world is witnessing Pakistan as an important player in the region with the Chinese mega investment plans which will bring the country closer to Central Asian Countries with a strategic role.
Muhammad Zubair graduated from the prestigious IBA Karachi with an MBA degree in 1981.
Immediately after completing MBA, joined American multinational IBM. During his 26 years career with IBM, he worked in various finance and management positions both within and outside Pakistan. He held senior level positions while on international assignments in Paris, Rome, Milan and Dubai.
During his career with IBM, Mohammad Zubair won several international awards for outstanding performances. Some of the important awards included:
- - IBM Pakistan best employee of the year award in 1983
- - Attended international convention for high performers at Napples, Italy in 1993
- - President's award for best performance in Europe 1997
- - Best performance award for Southern Europe, Middle East and Africa 2002
After working 26 years with IBM, he resigned in 2007. At the time of his resignation, he was working as Chief Financial Officer IBM Middle East / Africa. Joined PML N in 2012 and was immediately made part of the party's Media, Economics and Tax Reform committees. Before 2013 elections, he was part of the election campaign team of PML(N), leading the party to successful electoral results.
Was appointed Chairman Board of Investment in July 2013 which position he held till December 2013 when he was entrusted with the responsibility of Chairman Privatisation Commission and Minister of State for Privatisation.
As Minister for Privatisation, he successfully managed several major transactions including international capital market transactions. These included largest equity market transaction of HBL. Won best privatisation transaction awards at the Asian level in 2014 and 2015.
Took oath as Governor Sindh on 2nd February 2017. He is the son of late General Ghulam Umar. He has 5 brothers and 1 sister. One of his brothers is MNA and another brother is Chairman Pakistan Stock Exchange.
Sindh Governor Mohammad Zubair, who established his credentials as a moderate politician and an economic expert, is now making a positive contribution not only to highlight the cause of business capital of the country but also the idea of projecting Pakistan's soft image in comity of nations.
The Governor, who has rich and varied background of Pakistan's economy, is engaged in highlighting the importance of Karachi as business hub of the country, its potential for attracting investment and the benefits that would accrue to entrepreneurs.
He doesn't believe in politics of friction and confrontation and instead believes in national unity, harmony and solidarity.
Along with the economy related engagements he is also focusing on higher education in the province. He is regularly visiting both public and private sector universities, attending their convocation and exchanging view with faculties and students there.
